Interview with Mr Nicklaus and Mr Player - Honorary starter at the Masters.
I was looking at the app for the Masters Tournament and found the press interview with two of the honorary starters Mr Gary Player and Mr Jack Nicklaus.
They are two of the living legends of the game and along with Mr Arnold Palmer were the Big Three who helped to popularise our game at the beginning of the TV era.
It should be remembered that the three were, and still are, best of friends and this will explain some of the banter.
It was reminiscent of a past era, and as the two golfers said several times, the game was different then. Different clubs, different balls, different grasses. Also, for the top golfers today travel is first class - 45 years ago travel was more basic.
I enjoyed the interview in particular ;
opening remarks;
Player on travel at 3:50 and 32:00;
First meeting with Arnold Palmer 19:00;
Longevity of golfers 23:50;
And Comments by Nicklaus on the grand slam of golf and equipment at 25:50.
If you are interested you should listen to the clips or the whole interview on the Masters web site.
